What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health and peak performance. Nutritional Therapy can identify potential nutritional imbalances and how these contribute to symptoms. This approach allows the nutritional therapist to work with people on many levels by addressing nutritional imbalances and supporting the body towards maintaining health.

Why use Nutritional Therapy?

Some people simply want to check that they are on the right track with regard to healthy eating. Others may want to lose weight or get help with their symptoms

Nutritional Therapists recognise that each person is an individual with unique requirements and take time to define a personalised nutrition plan rather than a 'one size fits all' approach.

Nutrition and lifestyle approaches to healthcare have been repeatedly shown to support the health of all the major systems of the body (skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, immune, reproductive and integumentary [skin, hair, nails]). Typicaly priorities in Nutritional Therapy consultations are support to achieve optimum energy levels, healthy blood sugar balance, emotional and psychological wellbeing, optimum gastrointestinal health and tolerance to a broad range of food groups.

Carol Marlow FdSc dipION

Carol is a nutritional therapist. She qualified from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) after a period of 3 years of training. She is a full member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), as well as being registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Carol founded Libra Life in September 2009. Her main aim as a nutritional therapist is to concentrate on the ways that nutrition, nutrients, other biological agents and lifestyle choices can impact on and assist with maintaining optimal health. She is also very worried about the increase in people with obesity and its impact on the health of the individuals concerned. She regularly runs zest4life weight management courses which combine nutritional advice with motivational coaching.

Since starting in practice Carol has taken a special interest in areas related to supporting gastrointestinal health and functional imbalances of the body’s systems. Her role is to help you to optimise your diet and lifestyle so that you might move towards a state of optimal health. This is done by using foods, food concentrates, probiotics and lifestyle changes.

Eating for both health and pleasure is, for some, not achievable at the same time. Striking a balance is sometimes very difficult, fraught with complications, and possibly confused by marketing messages from food manufacturers. As a nutritional therapist Carol will guide, encourage and support you through your journey towards optimal health and peak condition.

The main focus is always on balance - whether this be balanced food choices, lifestyle choices or indeed a combination of the two. With expert guidance what can seem a daunting task to overcome alone can become very achievable.
